2007 Coleman Scholarship Fund Awards

The three $250.00 scholarships for 2007 were awarded to Michael
Garneaux, Lucy Peterson and Bruce Crow Eagle. Michael was a close
friend of Coleman's and is pursuing a degree in Human Services at
Sinte Gleska University with the goal of helping youth. She has been
a volunteer at many SGU youth activities in the last year, and she
was also a 2006 Coleman Marshall Scholarship recipient. Lucy
Peterson is studying at Jamestown College in North Dakota, majoring
in criminal justice/political science. She intends to go to law
school after graduation with the goal of becoming a public defender
at Rosebud. Bruce Crow Eagle is a student at SGU in the law
enforcement and computer science programs. Bruce is concerned about
the level of substance abuse and violence among the youth on the
reservation and wants to work with them on a personal level.
Congratulations to these 2007 recipients for their hard work and
dedication to the people. We wish them great success in the future
and send our thanks to all those who contributed to make these awards
possible.

Michael Antoinette Gameaux receives Gene Marshall scholarship

We are pleased to announce that the Coleman Gene Marshall scholarship was awarded today to Michael Antoinette Gameaux on July 30th 2006. Michael is completing her undergraduate studies in sociology at Sinte Gleska University. She plans to do post-graduate studies in criminology. Michael used her $250 scholarship award to purchase a set of new tires for her car so she can drive to and from school safely to complete her college degree. Transportation is a critical issue for students on the reservation, many of them are often unable to make what can be a 50 mile round trip to school. There is no public transportation on the reservation and cost of gas and car maintenance are a major expense for students (as well as working people in general).
